Paella and rice dishes in Barcelona, cooked to order

On Avenida Gaudi, between the Sagrada Familia and the Hospital de Sant Pau. Eight different rice dishes, each one cooked when you order it, to enjoy on our terrace.

Freshly made seafood paella at Restaurante Gaudeix, next to the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona

Here the paella does not come from a tray that has been sitting around all morning. We start it when you order it. That is why it takes time.

And while we are at it: if somewhere brings you a paella in ten minutes, that paella was already made. There is no mystery to it.

We are on Avenida Gaudi, a short walk from the Sagrada Familia. A lot of people come past here having spent half their trip waiting to eat a decent rice dish, so we take it seriously: good produce and fire, no shortcuts.

Of the more than 4,000 reviews we have on Google, the seafood paella is the most mentioned dish on the whole menu. Black rice comes next.

We are not just a view; we are flavour.

Our rice dishes

Eight rice dishes and paellas, one for every table

Seafood paella — Restaurante Gaudeix, Sagrada Familia, Barcelona

Seafood paella

Rice with fresh seafood and a stock that is where everything is decided. If the base is done well you notice it in the first spoonful, and if it is not, you notice that too. Your first paella in Barcelona: order this one and do not think twice.

€18.95

Black rice with squid ink — Restaurante Gaudeix, Sagrada Familia, Barcelona

Black rice

Squid ink, dark rice and a good deal more intense than people expect. Served with aioli.

€18.95

Soupy rice with lobster — Restaurante Gaudeix, Sagrada Familia, Barcelona

Soupy rice with lobster

Creamy, with broth, and the lobster in charge. The one you order when lunch is going to run long.

€35.95

Senyoret rice with peeled seafood — Restaurante Gaudeix, Sagrada Familia, Barcelona

Senyoret rice

All the seafood peeled. Same flavour as the seafood paella, but with no shells and no messy fingers. With children at the table it is much appreciated.

€22.95

Seafood fideua — Restaurante Gaudeix, Sagrada Familia, Barcelona

Seafood fideua

Swaps the rice for toasted noodles. It soaks up the stock just the same and comes out looser.

Mixed paella

Meat and seafood together. The one that settles the table when nobody can agree.

€19.95

Vegetable paella

Seasonal vegetables, no meat and no seafood. Our vegetarian option, and one of the dishes people name when they review us, so we must be doing something right.

€15.95

Chicken paella — Restaurante Gaudeix, Sagrada Familia, Barcelona

Chicken paella

The simplest one. With children, the safe bet.

Why our rice takes time (and why it is worth the wait)

A rice dish done properly cannot be rushed. Ours is started when you order it and reaches the table exactly right, not a minute early or late. It takes 15 to 20 minutes, made with bomba rice and a stock we make ourselves.

In the meantime, the table does not sit empty: our homemade tapas are meant for exactly that. Some patatas bravas, the croquettes of the day or some Padron peppers while the rice cooks.

The terrace

A rice dish with the Sagrada Familia in front of you

There are plenty of places to eat paella in Barcelona. Doing it on a terrace on Avenida Gaudi, with the Sagrada Familia on one side and the Hospital de Sant Pau on the other, rather fewer.

The avenue is pedestrian: you eat with no cars in front of you. And we open from 11:30 to 24:00 every day with the kitchen always on, so you can sit down at 13:00 or at 17:00 and the paella is made just the same. In Barcelona that is not as easy to find as it sounds.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about our rice dishes

Where can I eat a good paella near the Sagrada Familia?

At Avenida Gaudi 52, a few minutes on foot from the Sagrada Familia. We have eight different rice dishes, all cooked to order, and a terrace on the pedestrian avenue.

How long does it take to make a paella?

Between 15 and 20 minutes from when you order. We start it right then; it is never made in advance. While you wait, most people order a few tapas.

Do you have vegetarian or vegan paella?

Yes. Our vegetable paella is 100% vegan: nothing of animal origin goes into it.

Can I order paella for just one person?

Yes. We have individual paella pans, so paella is served from 1 person.

What rice do you use?

Bomba rice. And we make the stock ourselves, like almost everything in our kitchen.

Do you have gluten-free paella?

Our paellas do not have a gluten-free option. Other dishes on the menu, such as pasta, do.

How much does a paella cost?

Vegetable paella is €15.95; chicken paella, €17.95; seafood paella, black rice and fideua, €18.95; mixed paella, €19.95; senyoret rice, €22.95; lobster paella, €28.95, and soupy rice with lobster, €35.95.

What is the difference between paella, fideua and soupy rice?

Paella is made with rice and served dry. Fideua swaps the rice for toasted noodles. Soupy rice is served creamy, with broth, and in our case with lobster.

Do I need to book to eat paella?

It is not compulsory, but at weekends and in high season the terrace fills up. Booking is the way to make sure of a table outside: you can do it online or by calling +34 937 63 44 24.

Can I eat on the terrace?

Yes. The terrace looks onto Avenida Gaudi, which is pedestrian, with views of the Sagrada Familia.

We look forward to seeing you

The rice is made when you arrive. All you have to do is tell us when you are coming.
